Submission to OGTR on unlicensed distribution of GE material into Australian communities

It has come to the attention of Organic Operators Australia that a toxic insect bait has been deployed in Australia containing genetically engineered corn and soy ingredients without appropriate licensing by the Office of Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR).

The substance is an insect bait manufactured by Cargill, including GE Corn and GE Soy ingredients. Please find attached statements by the manufacturer to this end. We are unable to identify the specific strains or GE registrations under US regulation.

Organic Operators Australia would like to assist the OGTR in managing the risks of GE and GE licensing in Australia in the interest of protecting the Australian community at large and, more specifically, communities vulnerable to unlicensed GE incursion.
