Located in Coonawarra, South Australia, Koonara Wines was established in 1992 by Dru Reschke on vineyards he planted with his father Trevor in the late 1980s. Dru continues his passion for wine with his wife Nicole, who lives on the property with their daughters Lucy and Alice.
Our Coonawarra vineyards are organically grown and certified and have been since 2017. Koonara believes in creating wines that are high quality and age-worthy. All our wines are vegan friendly, low in sulphur and have no (or low) residual sugar.
✓ We’re certified to Australian Organic Standards in our Coonawarra vineyards.
✓ No pesticides have been used in our Coonawarra vineyards for over 10 years.
✓ Only 2 organic sprays a year. We only average two sprays per year for disease, with only organically certified product so as not to harm our delicate ecosystem.
✓ We let nature take care of bad bugs. We grow selected weeds to attract ‘good bugs’, that eat our ‘bad bugs’, so we have no need for pesticides.
✓ Weeds are our friend. We let selected weeds grow long and their roots deep, which aerate the soil and fills it with organic material. This holds water and natural nutrients, which help to produce healthy vines.
Stormflower is all about producing the best wine we can from our small block, with all fruit from the vineyard.
The vineyard achieved full organic certification in 2016 and all of Stormflower’s wines from the 2016 vintage onwards are certified organic, or made with certified organic grapes. We completed our winery just in time for the 2020 vintage and now make all our wines on site.
Sustainable farming is an integral part of the Stormflower philosophy. We pay great attention to the health of the soil, and this results in a vineyard that is a healthy, bio diverse and resilient system.
The vineyard has gone through many changes since we bought it in 2007. We began with a transition to organic composts and natural soil biology stimulants and minimising the use of chemicals. We gradually moved the vineyard to a fully organic system, and achieved full organic certification in 2016.
We ensure that our viticultural and winemaking practices are as gentle on the environment as they can be, and we focus on regenerating and working with our natural ecosystems.
Rosnay is an organic farm that was planned and created by the Statham family in 1995-1997, and which is now a part of Rivers Road Organic Farms, a unique model of cooperative organic farming using Community Title. Rosnay is certified by Organic Food Chain, which is a small, grassroots and farmer-owned certification company based in Toowoomba, QLD.
The vines and orchards have never been sprayed with harmful chemicals, a passion that began with Richard’s father Clive Statham. The family’s wine heritage begins on the other side of the family, with Florence’s french grandfather, Alberic Dulong de Rosnay, after whom the farm is named.
We farm organically because it is possible. We are convinced that chemicals should not be used to produce food. We are not convinced that simply fermenting grapes magically removes chemical residues. In fact, we believe that fermentation and digestion are metabolic processes that can alter the toxicity of chemicals, in ways which are poorly understood.
Rosnay was recognised as a pioneer in organic farming in 2012, when Sam Statham was awarded the Inaugural NSW Organic Pioneers Award.
